Questions
- What counts as a 5th grade reading level?
- On the Flesch-Kincaid scale it is roughly grade 4 to 5: sentences of about 12 words, and mostly one- and two-syllable words. This page targets that band and shows you the score it actually reached.
- Will it change the facts?
- No. Names, numbers, dates and quotations are kept exactly as written, and no information is added or dropped. Only the wording changes, and you can hover any highlight to see the original.
- Why does the score sometimes miss the target?
- Some subjects carry words you cannot replace — a text about photosynthesis keeps the word photosynthesis. When that happens the page says so rather than claiming a level it did not hit.
